Easy Tropical Smoothie Recipe

This easy tropical smoothie recipe is a real hit with my kids and one they enjoy on a regular basis. In this 5-ingredient tropical smoothie I combine frozen mango, pineapple and banana with coconut milk and a squeeze of fresh clementine juice for a fresh, zesty finish.

The reason I like to make my tropical smoothie recipe with frozen fruit is for convenience, as I can buy bags in the freezer section of my local store. However, adding frozen fruits saves the need to add ice cubes to chill the smoothie down, as I find ice only dilutes the smoothie.

My fruit laden best tropical smoothie recipe is quick to prepare so is the ideal grab and go breakfast option. However, don’t just save for breakfast, the refreshing flavours of this mango pineapple banana smoothie can be enjoyed any time of the day.

This healthy tropical smoothie is made with fresh fruit and unsweetened coconut milk. You won’t find any added sugars or sweeteners, nor any artificial flavours or preservatives in this smoothie.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • This best tropical smoothie recipe serves 2 but can be easily doubled if serving more diners.
  • Use ready prepared frozen fruits and this smoothie can be made and ready to enjoy in just 5 minutes.
  • Made with unsweetened coconut milk, this vegan tropical smoothie recipe is also dairy free and gluten free.

Tropical smoothie ingredients

Tropical smoothie recipe ingredients set in individual bowls.
  • Mango – for ease I use frozen mango. However, you can cut up a fresh mango and use that instead, either fresh or place in the freezer overnight to freeze.
  • Pineapple – again I use frozen pineapple for ease. You can prepare and use fresh pineapple if you prefer.
  • Banana – I slice banana, then place it on a tray and freeze it for a couple of hours, before removing and placing into a freezer bag and back into the freezer until I need it.
  • Juice – I like to add fresh clementine juice in this smoothie, roughly 2 clementines will do. You can also use satsuma, orange or lime juice.
  • Coconut milk – I use a carton of unsweetened coconut milk in this smoothie. I find canned coconut milk is too thick.

TOP TIP: Using frozen fruit chills the smoothie, saving the need to add ice cubes and thereby watering down your smoothie.

How to make a tropical smoothie

Place all the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth.

Divide the smoothie equally between 2 glasses and serve.

Recipe variations

  • Add other fruits to the mixing like papaya, dragon fruit or passion fruit. Just keep the overall weight of fruit roughly the same.
  • For a thicker smoothie add more frozen banana to the mix.
  • For a thinner smoothie, add a little more coconut milk.
  • Swap clementine juice for orange, satsuma or lime juice.
  • Coconut milk works well with the other flavours in this smoothie, but feel free to swap for any other variety of milk.
  • Add a spoon of vanilla protein powder for an extra boost of protein.

Loved this flavour combo, sometimes banana can overpower the flavour but this really highlighted the mango too.

Thank you Chloe, I only add a little banana to thicken the smoothie, like you I love the flavour of mango and wanted that to shine.
