My strawberry blueberry smoothie recipe is bursting with fresh berry flavour. To the frozen strawberries and blueberries I add frozen banana and some Greek yogurt to thicken the smoothie, then finish with regular milk and a drop of honey for added sweetness.
I make my strawberry blueberry smoothie with cows milk, I prefer to use whole or semi-skimmed milk. Feel free to use any variety of milk, oat or almond milk would be great dairy free alternatives.
I also like to make a strawberry blueberry smoothie with yogurt which adds a little acidity and lovely creamy texture to the smoothie. Feel free to make your berry smoothie without yogurt if you prefer.
This strawberry blueberry banana smoothie recipe is really versatile, so if you can add in other berries or flavours as you wish to get the mix to your liking. Just ensure you work with roughly the same overall quantities.
I like making my own smoothies as a homemade berry smoothie is a lot healthier than store bought alternatives which can have high levels of unrefined sugars, added artificial flavours and preservatives.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Uses frozen berries and banana which are available all year round and this smoothie can be ready to enjoy in just 5 minutes.
- This recipe serves 2 but can be easily doubled if you are feeding more diners.
- Contains no refined sugars or preservatives just a spoon of honey and the natural fruit sugars.
Recipe ingredients
- Berries – for ease I use bags of frozen strawberries and blueberries which I can buy in my local store. Frozen berries also have a thick and creamy texture when blended. Feel free to use fresh berries when they are in season, although this can make your smoothie watery.
- Banana – I like to use frozen banana, just slice and place in the freezer the night before, ready to make your smoothie fresh in the morning.
- Honey – I add a teaspoon of runny honey for sweetness.
- Milk – I use whole or semi skimmed milk, but you can use any variety of milk in this smoothie.
- Greek yogurt – I like to add some Greek yogurt which adds a thick creamy texture to the smoothie and is also a good source of protein.
TOP TIP: I like to use frozen berries and banana as this means you don’t have to add ice cubes to chill the smoothie, ice cubes melt and dilute the fruit too much.
How to make this strawberry blueberry smoothie recipe

Recipe variations
- I’ve used strawberries and blueberries, but feel free to add any other berries like raspberries, blackberries or blackcurrants into the mix.
- For a dairy free version of this strawberry blueberry smoothie use grain or nut based milk and dairy free yogurt.
- To make a vegan strawberry blueberry smoothie, as well as the milk and yogurt you will also need to swap the honey for maple syrup or agave syrup.
- Add extra banana to thicken your smoothie, or a splash extra milk if you want to thin it down.
Useful hints and tips
- Use frozen fruits as this will save you having to add ice cubes to cool down the smoothie causing the flavours to become more diluted.
- Frozen berries are available all year round, which saves buying out of season fresh berries, which are often imported, expensive and never taste as good as in season, local grown berries.
- Slice and freeze the banana the night before, ready to make your smoothie fresh in the morning.
- Take time to properly blend the smoothie, removing any lumps of frozen berry. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender and couple of times.
- This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh when it’s at its best.
- Containing no dairy this side dish is suitable for Vegan diners.
- Allergy advice: gluten free, egg free, soya free and nut free. For comprehensive and detailed allergy advice go to Allergy UK.
FAQs
Frozen berries are convenient and available all year round, tasting better than out of season, expensive imported berries. Once blended frozen berries have a creamy texture, whereas fresh berries can be too watery making your smoothie too thin.
Yes you can. I use a high speed blender and use frozen fruits straight from the freezer when making smoothies.
Smoothies are best enjoyed straight from the blender. However, leftovers can be stored in a covered jug or pitcher to be enjoyed the next day. Just give the smoothie a stir before serving.
