Medlar, Chelsea

Medlar, Chelsea is a fabulous restaurant on the King’s Road, close to Sloan Square. Serving beautiful, seasonal food is elegant surroundings.

I was lucky enough to dine at Medlar recently, a restaurant serving seasonal modern French style food on the King’s Road in Chelsea. From the street this restaurant looks like any other. However once inside the welcome is warm and the restaurant boasts comfortable and understated elegance. Attentive and well informed staff are on hand throughout dinner. Indeed service is friendly and relaxed with staff showing a real knowledge of the menu. The wine list is extensive with wine to suit every taste and budget.

My starter consisted perfectly cooked tagliatelle with sautéed cod cheeks, broad beans, asparagus and wild garlic. My friend opted for ham and asparagus with a poached pheasant egg and tapenade. In short two delicious plates of food.

London - Medlar - cheeseboard001

For mains my friend chose a main of duck with potato & celeriac terrine, pear and a beetroot puree. In particular the earthy beetroot a delicious partner to the perfectly pink duck breast. My main was trio of rabbit with wild garlic, white polenta and morels. In short this is one of the tastiest plates of food I’ve eaten as the balance in the dish was sublime. Indeed had I not been happily full, I would have eaten the entire plate again, just to taste it. Hands down a real knockout dish for me.

Finally after two seriously tasty courses, and in a savoury mood we selected the cheeseboard. Served at the perfect temperature this was accompanied by a very nice glass of Madeira. The cheeseboard was extensive with a good selection on offer.

There is a real charm to Medlar, the food is beautifully presented and the service faultless. I thoroughly recommend that you give it a try.

“One of the delights of life is eating with friends; second to that is talking about eating. And, for an unsurpassed double whammy, there is talking about eating while you are eating with friends. People who like to cook like to talk about food.” (Laurie Colwin, Home Cooking, 1988) more about us...
